Lynne Youngman was born in Iowa in 1947. She attended HLV Community High School in Victor, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa with a B.S. in History and Political Science. She became a Philadelphian in 1971.Mrs. Youngman previously has worked for Fitzpatrick & Smith, criminal defense attorneys; District Attorney of Philadelphia Emmett Fitzpatrick; and Herbert B. Newberg & Associates, as an author Newberg on Class Actions, legal secretary, researcher, and paralegal.Involved in progressive politics since youth, she has worked on the following causes: organization of farm workers, gaining reproductive choices for women, ERA, ending the Vietnam War, unionization of private secretarial workers, improving neighborhoods, preserving public libraries and local politics. In addition she has advocated for the rights of individuals with disabilities in connection with services, housing and education, by educating the public as to the abilities and contributions of individuals with disabilities in their local communities, and training caregivers how to effectively navigate the system for their family members, to end segregation in all areas of community life. Lynn has received various awards and citations for her endeavors. Married to C. Van Youngman for 32 years and the proud parent of an amazing, handsome young man who happens to have intellectual and developmental disabilities who every day proves to her that everyone has something to contribute to society if they are just given the chance to do so.
